TourismThe traveller has the choice of a variety of itineries, both for the winter and for the summer. The Tyrrenian coast offers an enchanting spectacle; This starts from Praia, divided from the nearby Basilicata by only a little stream called Castrocucco and presents itself, in a large part, with wide and often coved beaches where there are several caves on the waterline. Rich in coves that can only be reached by boat, the visitor can marvel at the beauty of the shoreline, the purple coast and the “gelsomini” coast with an uncontaminated sea, long beaches, enchanting sunsets, historical monuments and handicrafts. One can stop to visit Diamante, The Island of Dino and Cetraro, then reaching San Nicola Arcella, Pizzo Briatico going onto Tropea, Capo Vaticano, Scilla and Palmi. Going along the Ionian coast, one can visit the excavations at Locri, the cathedral and the castle of Gerace, the marble statue of Pentedattilo,; admire the coastlines of Soverato and Monesterace along with the tower and castle of Carlo V, then onto Riace and its bronze, the nearby churches of San Nicola di Bari, the SS. Cosmo and the Damiano. At Isola Capo Rizzuto, one can marvel in front of “Le Castella”, at Roccelleta di Borgia in front of the Norman castle and at Caminia one can see the tomb of Cassiodoro. One finshes the Ionic itinery, passing by Capo Spartivento, Crotone with its “Capo Colonna”, and Ciṛ with its castle of Carafa up to Rossano finishing at Sibari, where the big ancient city remains untouched and its mountains hold the “Patirion”, jewel of the Basilian civilisation. One can then go back up through the Appenines, passing by the Pollino National Park heading towards Altomonte and Laos and down into the deep gully of Raganello. From Pollino, going south-west, you get to Sila, which is divided into Sila Greca, Sila Grande and Sila Piccola: In winter one can Ski at Botte Donato and skate in Cotronei, while in summer one can dive into the Ampollino Lake; then going down towards San Giovanni in Fiore until the castle of Santa Severina, finishing the mountainous itinery at the “Certosa di Serra San Bruno”. The tourist, the foreigner or whoever visits Calabria, can easily and constantly enjoy it: One can find hotels of every type where typical Calabrese dishes in “agriturism”, villages, camp-sites and restaurants are readily served. Calabria today, is derived from an enormous heritage, which is more and more becoming a heritage for everyone. We hope for a numerous and enthusiastic amount of visitors. Of course your first visit will be crowned with the desire to come back an infinite number of times, so as to taste our wines, our cuisine and to fully enjoy our beaches and coastlines, our mountains, our art, our hospitality and naturally, our friendship. Welcome to the land of the Bruzi! |
